A critical part of the story about the development of the field of genetics has been left out of common knowledge and the textbooks. Without psychedelic drugs such as LSD, THERE WOULD BE NO FIELD OF GENETICS. The discovery of the DNA molecule came from a vision during an LSD trip. Also, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), the primary tool in genetics by which a small amount of DNA can be copied for purposes of analysis, was discovered with the use of LSD. To quote Kary Mullis, the guy who won the Nobel Prize for his discovery of PCR, "What if I had not taken LSD ever; would I have still invented PCR?" He replied, "I don't know. I doubt it. I seriously doubt it”.
